Oceans
In this section i wish to share about the issues related to the oceans and seas
Oceans are threatened by many different human activities. In this space I want to share information about the problems that our marine ecosystems are facing, as well as solutions to these issues.
To start, plastic pollution is one of the main causes for marine species extinction. Plastic takes hundreds of years to degrade, and even then it is broken down into tiny particles: micro-plastic. These, when eaten my marine animals end up in their bodies and tissues, and through the food chain lead to disastrous consequences for the health of our planet an all its inhabitants.
Micro-plastics are found everywhere: in standard table salt, drinking water, beer, the soil where we grow our vegetables… They are carcinogenic and may affect the endocrine system which causes developmental, neurological, reproductive and immune disorders. Toxic contaminants accumulate on plastic’s surface, and are transferred to humans through the consumption of seafood.
